Stop Playing Games: One Year Later

Exactly one year ago, we held a forum — the first and only truly public forum regarding the 2028 Olympic bid — called Stop Playing Games.

We assembled representatives from our growing coalition to discuss and answer questions about what the next 10 years will look like under the specter of another destructive Olympics. The bid committee — including absentee mayor Eric Garcetti — was invited but gave us an excuse about “changing schedules and international travel.” So we empty chaired them because they were too afraid of what we would say and likely had no decent rebuttal.

We were there a year ago fighting, despite the fact that City Council had written the IOC a blank check the week prior. We’re still here, with our coalition growing in strength both locally, nationally, and transnationally. Our resolve has not diminished. In fact, quite the opposite as DSA and socialism as a whole have grown tremendously in the last 12 months, and Angelenos have awakened to the fact that the Olympics are a terrible proposition for anyone except the ultra-wealthy.

And we’re still willing to debate LA 2028 or City Council members or Eric Garcetti, should they find that they actually want to engage with democracy and transparency. We’re here whenever they come to their senses to discuss and debate all the dark realities they’ve spent millions of dollars trying to obfuscate.

We’ll talk with anyone, anywhere, anytime.

Unlike our mayor and other ambitious power brokers behind the bid, we’re not going anywhere.
